A one-day session to help you improve machine utilization
Reduce the time between production runs!
While a CNC machine is in setup, it cannot be producing any workpieces. This
non-productive time can never be recovered. Everyone says they want to reduce
setup time. However, the more setups you make, the more important it is to
accomplish this goal -- and the more you should be willing to do to reduce
setup time.
This course will begin by introducing you to setup reduction principles --
principles that can be applied to setup time reduction for any kind of
production machine tool. We'll show the two task types related to making setups
as well as introduce the three general ways to reduce setup time.
We will then show you many specific techniques you can use to minimize setup
time in the general order that setups are made. We break the techniques into
three basic categories -- techniques that can eliminate on-line tasks --
techniques that can help move on-line tasks off line -- and techniques that
facilitate on-line tasks.
Discussions will be included for to both machining centers and turning
centers. Specific examples will be shown for the most popular control in the
industry, the Fanuc control. During this course, we commonly come up with many
specific ways to reduce setup time in the company holding the course.
