Vincennes University is the oldest college in Indiana (est.1801). VU is
unique among other predominantly two year institutions because it is not a
community college, but a residential college with 5 residence halls. Students
attend VU from all over the nation and the world. The Machine Trades Technolgy
Department has been turning out hundreds of graduates since 1966. It is
difficult to visit a manufacturer, and especially a Tool & Die or
Moldmaking shop in Indiana without bumping into VU graduates. Some companies
have over 20 graduates!, and many own their own companies now. The campus, the
facilities and the equipment at VU are awesome, both in quality and in
quantity. VU offers a 1 year certificate in Welding, a 2 year AS/AAS degree in
Tool & Die or Injection Mold Tooling, and a 3rd year additional AS/AAS
degree in Advanced Manufacturing which provides an additional 800 hours in
CAD/CAM and CNC programming and operations. Equipment-wise VU has about 25
vertical mills, 25 engine lathes, 25 surface grinders, 3 jig borers, 1 jig
grinder, 6 ID/OD grinders, 5 sinker EDM's, 1 Blanchard ginder, 5 heat-treating
furnaces, 3 punch presses, 3 injection molding machines, 15 CNC machines in the
Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC), 2 CMM's, several bench grinders, drill
presses, and misc. equipment, and a full array of welding and fabricating
equipment. In the 2 year program students machine and build complex injection
molds and progressive dies using conventional and CNC equipment. In the 3rd
year Advanced Manufacturing option students use Mastercam very extensively to
program and machine 2, 3, 4, and 5-axis parts, many of them in collaboration
with industry. Partnerships include: Haas, Mastercam, Charmilles, Erowa,
Kennametal, Niagara, SGS, LMT-Fette, Toyota, and Oxygen Education. Vincennes
University's graduates get great jobs!

A survey of the manufacturing employment opportunities in the New York
metropolitan area reveals that there is a strong need for personnel with
advanced manufacturing skills. Available positions include setup and process
personnel, equipment operators, CNC programmers and managers. The analytical
nature of the required skills makes it difficult to develop them with
on-the-job training as a sole source. Our programs are ideally suited to
provide the technical training required for such positions. There is no
equivalent curriculum at any college in the New York/Long Island reqion. The
primary purpose of our programs is to prepare you for immediate employment and
job advancement upon completing of the CNC Specialist program. We use the
latest technology available for CNC training including Predator CNC simulation.
We wrote our own books, which are published by Prentice Hall and are in 3rd
edition. "Introduction to Computer Numerical Control", by J.
Valentino and J. Goldenberg is a 5 star best seller on Amazon.com.

Texas State Technical College's Manufacturing Engineering Tecnology program
offers three specializations to help you find a successful and challenging
career within manufacturning. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY This program
combines manufacturing methods and processes with engineering mechanics and
design. Computer integration of the manufactur- ing process is emphasized using
PC-based Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD-CAM)
applications. This is an 18-month associate degree program. MACHINE SHOP
OPERATION Students who decide to enter this option will progress through a
series of machine shop courses designed to constantly challenge the process
skills on both conventional and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines.
This is a 12-month certificate of completion program. PLASTICS TECHNOLOGY
Students in this program gain basic knowledge of the plastics industry
including materials, processes and applications. The curriculum stresses theory
and extensive hands-on laboratory experiences. This is an 18-month associate
degree program.
The Machine Tool Technology program prepares individuals for entry-level
jobs in the machining industry. Students learn to machine parts using a large
variety of materials, on state-of-the-art machines such as lathes, mills, drill
presses, grinders and Computer Numerically Controlled machines. They also learn
related math skills,, blueprint reading, calculating and setting feeds &
speeds, and working to precise dimensions. Students also learnn to inspect
machined parts using precision measuring instruments and machines. The program
has an outstnading historyy of success in placement of its students on jobs..
The DATC offers Open-Entry enrollment and uses a self-paced modular
curriculum.. Students may participate in Vocational Industrial Clubs of America
(VICA)competitions.. Apprenticeships are available.. An AAS or BS Degree in
Manufacturing Engineering Technology is available through concurrent enrollment
with Weber Statee Universtiy in Ogden, Utah..
